Hollywood glamour meets modern, sexy sophistication with the opening of The London West Hollywood, fashioning a new look and feel on the legendary Sunset Strip. A famed location perched in the Hollywood Hills, this entirely suite hotel offers an alluring new setting for both the confident power-broker and the independent thinker to enjoy the vitality and vibe of LA's social scene. Names synonymous with authority and innovation come together to create an incomparable experience - from David Collins effortl.

"The London West Hollywood, formerly the Bel Age hotel, received an ever-so-grand makeover from Irish architect David Collins. The all-suite hotel even features a Gordon Ramsay dining room."

Conde Nast Traveler says...
"Everyone says it's the best - big rooms, a pool at the top, good personal service and value for money.' And that's just the cab-driver from Los Angeles airport talking. Any suspicion that his poetic licence should be taken away is banished the moment you venture inside the Art Deco lobby of the London West Hollywood. You can forget the hotel's self-conscious (and largely unnoticeable) 'nod to British style': your initial impression is that you have stepped into Alphonse Mucha's Prague, except the luxury here is more discreet. As for the atmosphere of the 200 suites, designed by David Collins Studio in a style trumpeted uncertainly as 'bel age', it is reminiscent less of Knightsbridge than of Pompeii, the capacious bath and black-and-white mosaic tiles evoking the sort of washroom where a Roman senator might come for his scrapes, albeit in a Gilchrist & Soames shower cap. But the suites are indeed roomy, the bed positioned in the centre with a walk-around headboard; and whatever the influence, it's all most tasteful. The wall tiles are hand-cut from bleached oak, the cupboards are pea-green, the linen Italian and the coffee-maker a Keurig. Even the view across the flat roofs to the Hollywood Hills does not disappoint. The only indisputably 'London' element is the ground-floor restaurant, opened by Gordon Ramsay and his aptly named chef de cuisine, Andy Cook. The amberjack sushi with black-bean miso, cherry-blossom shrimp and pressed king mackerel is especially good - and the closest you'll get to fish and chips here.
WHEN TO GO Any time: LA has mild, sunny winters and very hot summers.

The all-suite Raffles Hotel is recognized as one of the World*s Best Places To Stay - Conde Nast Traveler Gold List - 1998-2003. The hotel was designated as a national monument in 1987. Perhaps the single most enduring and alluring element of Raffles Hotel*s style is its architecture ~ an arrangement of low-rise - verandah-enclosed - colonial-style buildings - painted white with terrecotta-tiled pitched roofs - set amidst courtyards and gardens. The contrast between the lush and tropical gardens and turn-of-the-century colonial architecture has rarely failed to generate an appreciative response. The second key element of Raffles* style was the making of myth and legend. As many people travelled the world for pleasure - Raffles Hotel became one of the rites of passage of world travellers and *see you at Raffles* soon became a signature parting shot. The third element of Raffles* style ~ a quintessentially Singapore blend of old and new - East and West - heritage and high tech. The hotel is now infused with life in a manner that honours its past and traditions as much as it suits the present. The quality of timelessness is evident throughout the hotel: in the lush gardens - generously appointed and spacious suites - the fine restaurants - the famous Long Bar - the shady verandahs - the polished timber floors and the whirring ceiling fans. The fourth and final element that composes the Raffles style is the personalized service provided by discreet and well-trained staff - adding to the unique and truly memorable *Raffles Experience* - where residents are pampered in an atmosphere of privacy and intimacy.
What's Great Travel + Leisure says...
"The city's most iconic hotel, an 1887 colonial-style building surrounded by tropical gardens in the business district.
Rooms to Book: The Sarkies Suite is furnished with Chinese blackwood cupboards, Tiffany flatware, and Bose sound systems.
Insider Tip: Textile connoisseurs will thrill to the hotel’s collection of more than 700 Oriental rugs. The huge handwoven Persian carpet in the lobby is the work of legendary master carpet-maker Saber.
Squint a little and it’s easy to imagine how the all-suite Raffles must once have felt when the sea lapped up along its promenade, and Noël Coward and Somerset Maugham sat in the lobby bar tossing back Singapore Slings beneath the lazily twirling fans. The beach has long since been paved over, but thanks to sensitive renovations, the hotel still retains an old-world gravitas (only with added comforts like Wi-Fi, DVD players, and a butler who can be summoned at the touch of a button). The 103 colonial-themed suites, set in cloister-like buildings with breezy verandas, surround sweeping private lawns; all have 14-foot ceilings and are outfitted with carved Peranakan furniture, Oriental rugs spread over polished teak floors, rich brocade fabrics, and baths stocked with Amrita Spa products. Though it just celebrated its 121st birthday, the hotel is still a magnet for A-listers (Elizabeth Taylor, Diane von Furstenberg, and Barry Diller have all stayed here). And the bar still mixes a mean Singapore Sling."
