What's Great
Travel + Leisure says... "Italianate lakeside resort set on 3,000 acres at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain, with loads of outdoor activities and a laid-back, family-friendly vibe. Rooms to Book: For the newest rooms, book one of those in the Cape Cod-style Broadmoor Cottages (available starting in May). Insider Tip: Play a round of golf on the East Course, which is set to host the U.S. Women’s Open in 2011. An endless string of five-star ratings and a parade of celebrity guests decorate this 1918 Rocky Mountain resort. Reserve an expansive suite, ideally one with a half-canopy bed, a marble bath, and a balcony overlooking the lake and distant Rocky Mountains. The Broadmoor’s spa ranks among the finest in North America, as do its tennis facilities and dining." And Travel + Leisure says... "Three golf courses (with lessons for juniors), a top-notch spa (with treatments for kids and teens), a movie theater, a tennis club, an infinity pool with waterslides, and an endless roster of outdoor activities: the only question at the Broadmoor is whether you’ll have time to do it all. New in 2009: one- and eight-bedroom cottages with beamed ceilings, wood floors, stone fireplaces, and verandas—perfect for larger groups. Guest Tip: When grandmother Florrie Katchen (who’s been going to the resort for some 60 years) plans her family’s annual trip, she reserves a pool cabana for their entire five-night stay. “Now that our children are grown and there are grandchildren involved, it’s our gathering spot all day long,” she says. “Plus, it’s right next to the kids’ wading pool, and we have our own server from the pool café.”—Alison Goran

What's Great
Travel + Leisure says... "Nantucket Town's largest, plushest resort—which occupies a prime spot at the northern edge of Nantucket Harbor—is often booked for spring and fall weekend weddings. The hotel—a sister property of the Wauwinet—has an expansive waterfront patio (where many a white cake has been cut), chaise-dotted green lawns (where many a groomsman has taken a breather between dances), and a serene spa (where many a bride-to-be has indulged in a “Gift from the Sea” facial). The 64 airy, cream-and-white guest rooms are elegantly furnished, with nautical wall prints and upholstery in bright blue or red gingham; many have water views, and some have gas fireplaces. Families often choose one of the 11 stand-alone cottages instead—set among gardens, most have two or three bedrooms apiece, kitchenettes, and washer-dryer units. Tip: Morning-after-the-wedding hangover? Sunday brunch at the on-site Brant Point Grill has a make-your-own Bloody Mary bar. Room to Book: Harbor-View Rooms cost quite a bit more than standard doubles (about $150 more in high season)—but the stunning views over passing sailboats are worth it." -From www.travelandleisure.com

What's Great
Travel + Leisure says... "Asilomar, on the Monterey Peninsula, covers 107 forested acres fronting the Pacific shoreline. The property still bears a striking resemblance to the 1913 summer camp it once was: there are the rustic Craftsman-style bungalows—no televisions, no phones; the ringing of a brass bell to signal mealtimes in the cavernous, beam-ceilinged dining hall; and a wealth of activities ranging from biking to bird watching. Guest Tip: For more than 30 years, the Berliner-Brady clan has held their annual family reunion at Asilomar. Most of the group stays in the 14-room Stuck Up Inn, where light-filled hallways connect rooms that wrap around a courtyard and the living room is big enough to hold their entire crew, which includes some 50 relatives. On the final night of their stay, they gather at Viewpoint, a small cottage next door that the staff sets up with tables and refreshments to celebrate the past year’s occasions." —Alison Goran
